The 2024 African Retreat, organized by the African Catholic Communities in UAE, was a spiritually enriching national gathering held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Jebel Ali. Themed “Abide in Me and I in You” — drawing from John 15:4 in the Gospel — the retreat focused on deepening personal and communal union with Christ, emphasizing that true fruitfulness in faith comes from remaining rooted in Him, much like branches connected to the vine. Participants from various African communities across the UAE came together for days of prayer, reflection, inspiring talks, Eucharistic celebrations, and fellowship, fostering a sense of unity and renewal amid the vibrant multicultural life of Dubai.
Under the guidance of dedicated priests and lay facilitators, the retreat featured moments of adoration, group discussions, and worship that encouraged attendees to surrender more fully to God’s presence in their daily lives. The serene setting of St. Francis Church provided an ideal space for introspection and spiritual growth, away from the usual parish routines. Many left refreshed and recommitted to abiding in Christ’s love, carrying forward the retreat’s message to strengthen their families, communities, and witness as African Catholics in the UAE. This annual event continues to be a cherished highlight for the community, nurturing faith and solidarity year after year.
